Potlood, our local Dachshund at Kaapsehoop

“You don’t own a Dachshund, they own you.” When most people get a dog, they think of themselves as the owner. However, with Dachshunds, you may question who is the boss in your establishment. Come to Kaapsehoop and meet our local Dachshund named Potlood, the proud owner of the Nagkantoor and De Wet Potgieter, his faithful companion. 😁 Kaapsehoop, historically a mining village that lies at the heart of South Africa, Mpumalanga province. This village is well known for its wild horses roaming the streets, beautiful surrounding scenery, breathtaking sunsets, pounding waterfalls and The Blue Swallow Reserve.

To Beginnings and Paws

"Life is like a dog on a leash. The more you pull and control the more restless it becomes."      Being our first entry on the Kaapsehoop blog we decided to talk about Ripley who belongs to J.C. the towns' guide and employee of Scootours.      Ripley is adventurous, playful and curious. She is often challenged when hiking with J.C. to connect dots when facing heights on the rocks. J.C. is always there to patiently guide her down.      Initially a stray taken into the care of an animal shelter having had malnutrition and a severe lice infestation in her coat. J.C. decided to adopt and take care of her after the tragic loss of his doberman pincher named Ghost who had been legendary amongst the mountain folk.       Almost nine months old and impressively more attractive than the day of adoption. You will always find Ripley by J.C's side when visiting the mountain; their bond unique and unlike one you have ever seen.
